PARENTS CURRICULUM INFORMATION Year 1.
Autumn 2 Topic: Light and dark
Literacy
We will be listening to lots of different alien and space stories. We will be using our imagination to write our own alien stories.
We will be reading and writing poems with repeated and patterned language.
We will be learning to read, write and follow instructions.
Numeracy
We will be concentrating on numbers from 0 to 20, looking at comparing, ordering, reading and writing numbers. We will learn the number names and learn to use number lines.
We will look at addition and problem solving.
We will learn about shapes abd finding half a shape.
The class will be learning their number bonds to 10.
We will be measuring and comparing length, weight and capacities.
We will be learning how to tell the time to the hour and half hour. We will be learning the days of the week and the months of the year.
Science
We will be learning about light and dark. We will look at different light sources. We will explore shiny and reflective materials. We will look at how shadows are made.
ICT
We will be using different modelling techniques to design pictures of rockets and aliens. We will use ICT to support our numeracy work.
PSHE
We will be thinking about what makes a good friend. We will be looking at our class golden rules.
Art
We will be looking at the work of Jackson Pollock, and trying different techniques to produce our own abstract paintings.
History
We be looking at toys from the past. We will think about how toys have changed and which toys have stayed the same.
Religious Education
We will looking at different festivals of light. We will be looking at the Christmas story and taking part in the nativity play.
P.E.
We will be learning basic skills an learning how to play outdoor games. We will be learning how to follow instructions using directional language.
PE lessons will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays – please make sure your child has their PE kit for every lesson.
We will be learning songs that will help us with our numeracy. We will be learning and performing songs in the nativity play.
Reading books – your child’s reading books will be changed once a week. Please make sure they bring their reading book every day.
